More about outer burial containers...

While state and federal laws do not require the use of an outer burial container, some cemeteries, especially perpetual care cemeteries, require an outer burial container in which the casket is to be placed. The purpose of the outer burial container is to maintain the level ground in the cemetery by protecting the casket from the weight of the earth and the heavy equipment used for burial. In some instances, the outer burial container offers some protection from outside elements.

Grave Liner

  • Grave liners are usually the minimum requirement of perpetual care cemeteries. Usually made of concrete, grave liners serve the purpose of maintaining the level cemetery ground but offer no protection from outside elements.

Concrete Vaults

  • Concrete vaults use durable concrete with an inner liner that forms a seal. Prices for concrete vaults vary according to the weight of the concrete and the material of the liner. Concrete vault interiors are lined with protective material and can be reinforced with stainless steel, copper or bronze.
